BUR – Built Up Roofing.
This is a very common roofing for low slope or flat roofs. The roofs are alternating layers of a felt coated with bitumen. The felt are either organic felts or glass-fiber mats. Bitumen is either asphalt, coal tar, or solvent. The layers of felt are also called plies. For example, a 3 ply roof is 3 felts alternating with the bitumen in one cross section. The bottom-most layer can be mechanically fastened to the roof deck. This type of roofing is considered adhered to the roof if it is applied directly to the roof deck or insulation. The surfacing is made up of aggregate (gravel, minerals) or glass-fiber, mineral-fiber coatings, aluminum coatings, elastomeric coatings. Aledo’s Best Roofer recommends certain brands for their commercial roofing installations.
Sprayed Polyurethane Foam has been used as roofing material for over 45 years. It is low maintenance and should indefinitely as long as they are taken care of. The roofs are dependable and affordable. The two components of the foam are isocyonate and polyol. These components are melted down in a spray gun and combined. The resulting liquid spray is applied to a substrate (roof) and since it is a continuous spray it is seamless, there are no breaks. The roofing surface has to be clean and free of debris. A protective elastomeric coat is applied either by spray gun, or can be rolled on by hand. There are many types of roof that can benefit from foam: uneven roofs, roofs with seams and splits, BUR roofs, metal roofs, standing seam roofs.
